Exciting Developments in Ventura High Schools
Ventura’s educational landscape is set to undergo a significant transformation with the introduction of electric vehicle and bicycle repair classes at Buena and Ventura high schools by fall 2025. Thanks to a substantial **$650,000 grant** from the K-12 Strong Workforce Program, the Ventura Unified School District is gearing up to enhance its technical training offerings through the **Automotive Career Pathway**.
This funding will facilitate the **acquisition of cutting-edge equipment**, training for educators, and essential infrastructure upgrades. Ventura Unified’s Superintendent emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting that it will provide students with crucial skills for the expanding automotive and green tech industries.
The K-12 Strong Workforce Program, initiated in 2018 by California’s education department, allocates **$150 million annually** for career technical education statewide. Ventura Unified’s grant represents part of a larger **$9.8 million** investment in regional education.
Currently, the Automotive Career Pathway caters to **276 students**, equipping them for careers in automotive repair. Future plans include expanding opportunities for students in related fields like environmental science and information technology.
With this initiative, local colleges, such as Oxnard and Ventura, are poised to collaborate, ensuring students receive relevant industry training. As electric vehicle registrations soar, educational programs are shifting to meet the demand for skilled technicians adept in modern automotive technologies.
