Tsunami
A tsunami is a series of large ocean waves typically caused by underwater seismic activities, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides. These waves can travel across entire ocean basins at high speeds and can grow significantly in height as they approach shallow coastal waters, resulting in devastating impacts on coastal communities. The term “tsunami” originates from the Japanese words “tsu” (harbor) and “nami” (wave). Unlike regular ocean waves that are generated by wind, tsunamis involve the movement of a large volume of water and can carry immense amounts of energy across vast distances. The destructive power of a tsunami can lead to loss of life, extensive property damage, and long-term environmental changes in affected areas.
