Taiwan
Taiwan is an island located in East Asia, situated in the western Pacific Ocean, off the southeastern coast of China. It is officially known as the Republic of China (ROC). Taiwan has a distinct political, legal, and economic system that operates separately from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), which claims sovereignty over the island. The capital of Taiwan is Taipei, and the island is known for its vibrant economy, advanced technology sector, rich cultural heritage, and diverse landscapes. Despite its political status being contentious and complex, Taiwan functions as a de facto independent nation with its own government, democratic elections, and a separate identity from mainland China. The term “Taiwan” can also refer to the broader cultural and historical context of the island, including its indigenous peoples, historical migrations, and contemporary society.
