Supermoon

A “Supermoon” refers to a full moon that occurs when the moon is at or near its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, known as perigee. During a supermoon event, the moon appears larger and brighter in the sky compared to when it is farther away from Earth, termed apogee. This phenomenon can enhance the visual brightness of the moon by approximately 30% and make it appear up to 14% larger in diameter. Supermoons can occur multiple times a year, depending on the moon’s orbit and the timing of the full moon phase. The term gained popularity in recent years and is often used to highlight these striking lunar occasions for astronomy enthusiasts and the general public alike.
