Sunderbans

The Sunderbans is a vast mangrove forest located in the delta region of the Padma, Meghna, and Brahmaputra river basins, spanning parts of India and Bangladesh. It is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to the Bengal tiger, as well as various species of birds, reptiles, and marine life. The region is characterized by its unique tidal ecosystem, consisting of a complex network of waterways, mudflats, and mangrove vegetation. The Sunderbans is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its environmental significance and the critical role it plays in coastal protection and biodiversity conservation. The name “Sunderbans” roughly translates to “beautiful forests” in the Bengali language, reflecting the natural beauty of the area.
