North Korea-Russia Relations

North Korea-Russia Relations refers to the diplomatic, economic, and military interactions between North Korea (officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or DPRK) and Russia (officially the Russian Federation). These relations have been shaped by historical ties dating back to the Cold War when the Soviet Union supported North Korea. The contemporary aspects of their relationship include trade, political partnership, and cooperation on security issues, particularly in the context of North Korea’s nuclear program and regional stability in Northeast Asia.

Russia seeks to maintain influence in the region and balance its relationships with both North Korea and South Korea, as well as the United States. North Korea, on the other hand, looks to Russia for support against sanctions and diplomatic pressure from other nations, particularly the U.S. and its allies. The level of cooperation has varied over time, influenced by geopolitical factors, economic needs, and changes in leadership within both countries.
