Hubble Space Telescope

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a large, space-based observatory that orbits Earth. Launched on April 24, 1990, it is named after the astronomer Edwin Hubble. The telescope is equipped with a range of scientific instruments that allow it to observe astronomical objects across various wavelengths, particularly in the visible, ultraviolet, and near-infrared spectra. The HST has provided significant insights into the universe, contributing to discoveries related to the expansion of the universe, the nature of galaxies, black holes, and exoplanets. Its location above Earth’s atmosphere enables clearer and more detailed images than ground-based telescopes, without distortion from atmospheric interference. The Hubble Space Telescope has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of cosmic phenomena and has produced iconic images that have captivated both scientists and the public alike.
