Space Debris

Space debris, also known as space junk, refers to non-functional satellites, spent rocket stages, and various fragments from collisions or disintegration of spacecraft and other objects in Earth’s orbit. This debris poses a hazard to operational satellites, space missions, and the International Space Station due to the high velocities at which these objects travel. Space debris can range from tiny paint flecks to larger pieces, and it remains in orbit around the Earth for extended periods, depending on its altitude and other factors. Efforts are ongoing to monitor and mitigate space debris to preserve the sustainability and safety of space activities.
